Figuring that since I was driving all the way to Lyman, maybe I could take a few hours out of my trip and go to Littleton to pick up the chassis. After clearing it with my boss I was good to go with my Chevrolet Equinox.\u00a0 I left Lyman later in the afternoon and the fuel level was lower than I would have liked\u2014there must be a gas station in Lyman\u2026\u2026.my phone gps said \u201cno results\u201d. So I headed off figuring there must be a gas station somewhere between Lyman and Littleton.\u00a0 My phone kept saying \u201cno results\u201d.\u00a0 What I didn\u2019t take into account was I was driving in the far SE corner of Wyoming\u2026\u2026there is NOTHING out there!\u00a0 The fuel level dropped, the warning light came on, I was getting nervous and I started looking for houses or anywhere I could stop and ask for a gallon or two of gas.\u00a0 Finally, I saw signs for Cheyenne \u2013 what a relief!\u00a0 The Equinox has an 18.8-gallon capacity fuel tank and I filled it with 18.69 &#8211; gallons. Talk about driving on fumes!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_231\" style=\"width: 242px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-231\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-231\" src=\"http:\/\/intermarque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/back1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"174\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-231\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here is what a Lotus Europa chassis looks likes secured in the back of a Chevrolet Equinox.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The gentleman I purchased the chassis from was away on a bicycling trip but his wife was home to provide access to the chassis. Thankfully, it is light enough that I could lift it into the vehicle by myself. The trip home was noisy due to the rear hatch being open but otherwise uneventful.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_229\" style=\"width: 255px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-229\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-229\" src=\"http:\/\/intermarque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chassis-1-245x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/intermarque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chassis-1-245x300.png 245w, https:\/\/intermarque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chassis-1.png 247w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bob Cates did a wonderful job of blasting the chassis down to bare metal. The turn-around was fast and the price was right at $125!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The chassis had some surface rust and a couple of little \u201cdings\u201d so I called Mark Nordin at Mark Nordin Enterprises about blasting, repairing and painting the chassis.\u00a0 Mark painted the blue Europa I\u2019m also working on and he did an amazing job.\u00a0 He recommended that I take it to Cates Sandblasting in Stacy and then bring it to him for metal repair, priming and painting.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_228\" style=\"width: 276px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-228\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-228\" src=\"http:\/\/intermarque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chassis2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"255\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Primed and painted chassis in Mark\u2019s paint booth \u2013 almost as good as new!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The chassis went directly from Bob to Mark for some minor metal repair, epoxy primer and catalyzed \u201cDove Gray\u201d chassis paint. While the chassis was being repaired I was working on removing everything from the damaged chassis.\u00a0 I soon realized that parts from a 34-year old car can be pretty crusty!<\/p>\n<p>You probably figured this was coming\u2026..I can\u2019t put crusty, rusty parts back on a freshly refinished chassis can I????<\/p>\n<p>No, I can\u2019t.\u00a0 Here we go on the never ending, perpetually under restoration saga\u2026\u2026. what to do\u2026\u2026stay tuned to find out!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RECAP AND PHOTOS PROVIDED BY DAVE LINDEMANN How close have you come to running out of gas without actually running out?
