RECAP: Spring Kick-Off 2023

– By SKO Chair, Dick Leighninger – The 30th InterMarque Spring Kick-Off car show in Osseo May 20, was very successful! We had wonderful weather, and about 280 cars and bikes. Counting cars at the SKO is a lot like nailing squirrels to a tree, but this is our best estimate. (No squirrels were harmed). We know we handed out all 250 of our gift bags.  (Check out our Facebook group for many great photos and insights!)

In addition to the 15 clubs we normally have, this year we added the Twin Cities Volkswagen Club and the Viking Vintage Motorcycle Club. Our featured marque was the Vintage Sports Car Racing group (VSCR), who brought us 12 vehicles.

We had 5 vendors this year, including Quality Coaches, BMC British Automobiles, Midwest Lifts, Further Performance, and Dent Kraft. Union Speed and Style, a local merchant, had their facility open for tours, and displayed two vintage Fords out front.

This show also helped make a difference! The Girl Scouts earned $1,300 for selling tickets and Cross Food Shelf received 402 pounds of food and $430 in cash.

The Osseo Police Department was awarded one of our “Thank You” license plates for their great assistance leading up to and throughout the show.

We appreciated the additional promotional support from: Factory Motor Parts (FVP), Moss Motors, Sears Imported Autos, Wizards Products, American Family Insurance, British Parts Northwest, Breitenfeldt Group, Becky Meierhofer Insurance Agency, Road America, Wells Fargo Advisors, French Lake Auto Parts, Infinity Floral, Osseo Holiday, Elsie’s, Premier Bank.

The car that won “People’s’ Choice, was a 1961 Mercedes 190SL, beautifully restored by John Jacobson of the Mercedes Club. Part of his prize was a gift certificate for British Car Parts, which he will unfortunately have a hard time using on his German cars.

Congrats to our Valve Cover Race Winner, Max!

The Valve Cover Racing series was competitive. In the end Max’s Triumph Stag Valve Cover took home the trophy!

I want to thank all of the committee who contributed their time and effort to make this show a success. It is always smart to take a look at what we have done and consider any needed or desired changes. I have scheduled a de-briefing for June 17, again at Elsie’s. Part of the meeting is to select the date of next year’s show and to choose the marque to be featured in 2024. Please plan to attend.
