-By Eric Fantin – Another busy car season this year in my little world of the car hobby. I have been working on many cars for several friends, especially Citroëns, for our car club members and trying to attend to my own vehicles also.
This particular car is a 1962 Citroën 2CV. I have been working on and off for a friend of mine, the car came to me as a non-running vehicle, I knew ahead that compression were good and the ignition components had been replaced. After several basic checks it was determined that it needed a fuel pump and a fuel tank cleanup to make it run, then the usual fluid changes and grease job and the flat twin was purring along.
Now the car had to stop so it needed complete front brakes at a minimum. This specific car has been upgraded with a bigger engine and transmission from a later model making the search for certain parts more difficult. In the long production life span of that model (1948 to 1990) there is an amazing amount of technical differences, a normal occurrence as the vehicle has to evolve to stay relevant and appealing to the buying public, that same evolution has been similar for many models like the VW Beetle, the Austin Mini, the Fiat 500 and even the Porsche 911.
In any case to go back to the 2CV, once I was able to figure what brake system was needed, the car was now a running, driving and more importantly a stopping car, the next job is to replace the rear brakes, rear bearings, a few more parts in the engine compartment and fit the rear bumper, then happy motoring for the fall season.
The next project will more involved, bringing this 1955 2 CV back to life! Stay tuned to this website for updates.
