S Cargo at Breakfast

-By John Engstrom

Well, my MG is finally up for sale. I drive it so little that it seems like the right thing to do at this point. The trouble is that I have been spending a lot of time and money fixing it up to sell it and now that I am at that point I’m starting to think, maybe I should keep it. I am one of those guys who doesn’t like to give up his stuff.

Spotted in the parking lot last week at Elsie’s at the InterMarque breakfast, was Mike Gondek’s Nissan S Cargo. Yup it’s pronounced like escargo, which means it probably won’t ever be setting any speed records.I went to take a picture of it but the battery in my camera failed, luckily, I had one of the guys take pictures on his phone and send them to me but they would not come through to me…. my usual luck was still intact. I didn’t get a chance to stop and talk to him about when and where he got it but it is a very distinctive car. (Pictures above were sent by Mike Gondek)

A small, cute van. The S Cargo was manufactured by Nissan from 1989 to 1992 and it is reported that only 8,000 were produced in total. it came with a 1.5 L engine. The picture shown has “all” of the optional items i.e. a porthole window on the sides and an electric canvas sunroof. Introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1998, and is inspired by the Citroen 2CV Forgonnette delivery van.

Come to Breakfast on Saturdays, you never know what you’ll see.
